The New Pathways Programme

A neuroscience-informed approach for people living with Chronic Fatigue, ME/CFS, Post-Viral Fatigue and Long COVID.

⭐ Trusted by 700+ people since 2007

Many people arrive feeling tired — not just physically, but emotionally.

You may have tried many different things — rested, paced, researched, supplements, hoped — and still found yourself stuck.

If that's you, you're not alone.

The New Pathways Programme is built around a simple, compassionate understanding:

Sometimes the nervous system gets caught in a protective loop — trying so hard to keep you safe that it struggles to switch off, even long after the original trigger has passed.

The programme is designed to help you understand that loop and learn practical ways to interrupt it.

How the Cycle Begins

For most people, symptoms start with something real and tangible:

  • A virus

  • A period of prolonged stress

  • An illness or health scare

When symptoms appear, it's natural to become more concerned, cautious and alert. You pay closer attention. You try to understand what's happening. You try to protect yourself.

But when symptoms feel frightening or unpredictable, the brain can begin to associate certain sensations or activities with danger.

The nervous system steps in to help — tightening, guarding, preparing.

It's doing its best.

But over time, this protective state can become the new normal.

A cycle forms. The brain stays on alert. Symptoms linger.

What Keeps the Cycle Going?

Many of the things people do in this situation are deeply understandable:

• Monitoring symptoms

• Searching for answers

• Avoiding activities

• Worrying about setbacks

• Trying to control every sensation

These responses come from care, caution and self-protection.

But they can also send a message to the brain that danger is still present.

The stress response stays switched on.

The body has fewer opportunities to settle, soften and repair.

This does not mean symptoms are imagined.

It means your nervous system may be playing a key role in keeping the cycle going — and importantly, that it can learn a different way.

Breaking the Cycle

The New Pathways Programme is designed to gently interrupt this pattern.

Together, we identify the patterns that may be keeping your system in protection mode and begin creating new healthy responses that help the brain feel safer and less threatened.

Rather than fighting symptoms or pushing through them, we focus on helping the nervous system become calmer, more flexible and less reactive over time.

As this happens, your parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for rest, recovery and repair — has more room to do what it's meant to do.

What You'll Learn

The programme is designed to help you understand the patterns that may be keeping the stress response active and develop practical ways to interrupt them.

Together, we'll explore:

How to recognise when your system has shifted into protection mode

Practical ways to calm the stress response

How attention, thoughts and behaviours can unintentionally reinforce the cycle

New ways of responding that encourage safety, confidence and flexibility

How to gradually rebuild confidence, activity and trust in your body

The aim isn't to fight symptoms.

The aim is to create the conditions that allow recovery to happen naturally.

Reading this, people often tell me they finally feel like their symptoms make sense — and that alone can be a turning point.

What this can lead to

As the nervous system begins to settle, you will notice gradual changes in everyday life:

• More reliable energy

• Greater confidence

• Improved focus and clarity

• Increased activity without the same fear of setbacks

• More enjoyment of everyday life

Progress is rarely overnight but, over time, you'll find yourself moving forward in ways that once felt impossible.

“I’d been trying everything for a long time, but nothing really held.
This helped me understand what was going on — and what to do differently.

Over time, I felt calmer, clearer, and more like myself again.”
